Washington, Aug. 6 -- A work slowdown by the Trump administration's immigration officers has pushed the backlog of US citizenship applications, green cards and work permits to a record 7.5 million, according to the latest US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) data, reports Axios.
Furthermore, adding in the separate pending applications for asylum, work visas and humanitarian protections, the total immigration backlog is nearly double -- exceeding 12.1 million cases.
The continued delays have left millions of immigrants in legal limbo, increasing the risk of detention or deportation while their applications remain pending, despite many having followed legal immigration procedures.
