Mumbai, Jan. 22 -- Maharashtra on Thursday finalised the reservation for the mayor's post in all 29 municipal corporations through a state-level draw of lots held at Mantralaya, marking a significant shift in urban local body politics with a strong emphasis on women's leadership.

The draw, conducted in the presence of Deputy Minister for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, allocated reservation categories including General, General (Woman), Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Caste (Woman), Other Backward Classes, OBC (Woman) and Scheduled Tribe. As a result, 15 of the 29 municipal corporations will be headed by women mayors in the upcoming term.
