Kolkata, Aug. 12 -- A woman learning to drive died on Wednesday after the car she was practising in plunged into a waterbody in Keshtopur, in the eastern part of Kolkata.
The police have identified the woman as Sumitra Das, a resident of Prafulla Kanan in Kestopur.
A senior officer of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate said that their preliminary investigation hints at the fact that the woman might have accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing her to lose control of the vehicle.
"She had taken out a car purchased by her husband, Krishnendu Das, for driving practice ahead of her test scheduled for August 22," the officer said.
