Mangaluru, Aug. 2 -- A 55-year-old daily wage worker was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district, triggering fresh concerns over escalating human-elephant conflict in the forest-fringe villages of Belthangady taluk.
The victim, Balakrishna Gowda of Idmalu village, was reportedly attacked near Muchiradka in Rekhya village under the Nelyady police station limits on Saturday evening while returning home from work.
When Gowda failed to reach home, his family members and villagers launched a search. The operation took a grim turn after they discovered his raincoat and fresh elephant footprints along a forest path, indicating a possible elephant attack.
