New Delhi, Oct. 25 -- A critical police position in the heart of the capital has been lying vacant for 57 days, and the reason appears to be a simple one: no one wants the job.

The post of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Parliament Street, which fell vacant after ACP Ajay Gupta's retirement on August 29, has seen two designated officers decline to take charge, exposing a reluctance among senior personnel to assume the high-pressure role.

First, ACP Anil Sharma, who was posted as the replacement, never assumed charge. Subsequently, the next officer assigned, ACP Jata Shankar, also failed to join and has remained on medical leave.
