Pankaj JainNew Delhi, March 6 -- Former Indian diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. He will succeed Vinai Kumar Saxena, who has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

Sandhu is a 1988 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service and is widely known for his long diplomatic career representing India in key international assignments.

Before this appointment, Sandhu served as India's 28th Ambassador to the United States from February 2020 to January 2024.

During his tenure in Washington, he played an important role in strengthening India-US relations and worked closely with the administration led by President Donald Trump, as well as the succeeding leadership.
