Kolkata, July 19 -- With an aim to transform taxi drivers into vehicle owners and stakeholders in the platform instead of remaining commission-paying service providers, union Home and Cooperation minister Amit Shah today announced that the Centre's cooperative-based "Bharat Taxi" initiative will be rolled out in West Bengal.
Speaking at a function in Kolkata, he said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed on Sunday to facilitate the introduction of the Bharat Taxi model in the state.
"We have entered into an agreement with Bharat Taxi with the objective of ensuring that the taxi driver becomes the owner of the vehicle," Shah said.
