Kolkata, Aug. 20 -- Private blood banks across West Bengal, including those operating in Kolkata, will have to submit a signed declaration undertaking to comply with Health Department and National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) guidelines as the state tightens its oversight of the sector following allegations of malpractice and regulatory violations, a senior health department official said.

The declaration will have to be signed by the owners and operators of private blood banks, making compliance a formal condition for their continued operation, according to decisions taken at a meeting involving state and central blood transfusion authorities held earlier this month.
