Kolkata, Sept. 2 -- The West Bengal health department has cancelled the licence of Life Care Blood Centre in Kolkata following an investigation into the alleged unauthorised interstate transfer of thousands of units of blood components, senior officials said.

The privately-run blood bank in the city, allegedly transferred packed red blood cells (PRBCs) and plasma to Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh without mandatory reporting to or approval from the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), officials said.
