Kolkata, May 14 -- Four days after taking responsibility, the BJP government in West Bengal issued notification banning animal slaughter in public places.
In the notification the state government directed all concerned authorities to implement West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act, 1950 strictly, across the state.
The notification read that it has been issued in accordance with the August 6, 2018 judgement of the Calcutta High Court and a related government guideline issued on June 8, 2022.
The notification comes at time when there were allegations that a particular community was slaughtering animals on the road causing inconvenience for the other people living in the neighbourhood.
