Saibal GuptaKolkata, July 12 -- West Bengal has recorded an additional revenue collection of nearly Rs 1,000 crore in the first month of the new BJP government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, compared to the corresponding period last year, according to sources in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
The government has attributed the increase to plugging institutional leakages in revenue collection rather than imposing any new taxes, while alleging that widespread corruption under the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration had deprived the state exchequer of thousands of crores of rupees.
Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister on May 9.
