Siliguri, July 13 -- West Bengal Minister for Labour Bhaskar Bhattacharya on Monday visited the agitation site at Longview Tea Estate near Siliguri in Darjeeling district and appealed to workers to withdraw their prolonged hunger strike, assuring them that the state government stood firmly by their side and was committed to resolving the crisis.

The minister's visit came a day after Labour Minister Arjun Singh, Bhattacharya, and other senior officials held a meeting at North Bengal secretariat, Uttarkanya, with representatives of several tea gardens to discuss issues affecting the tea industry.
