Kolkata, April 22 -- West Bengal Education Minister and senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bratya Basu on Wednesday said the state Assembly elections have turned out to be a contest between the people and a central government that wants to "place" a BJP-led government.

Addressing a press conference at the Press Club, Kolkata, Basu said the elections in the state have taken an unprecedented and "dirty" turn.

"The centre is using all forms of coercive measures including the use of multiple central agencies to swing the election in BJP's favour. They are actively using the Election Commission of India (ECI) to browbeat voters to ensure the BJP gets an edge here," Basu said.
