Midnapore, July 14 -- A day after two sand quarry workers sustained bullet injuries near the Dahijuri CIF camp in West Bengal's Jhargram district, one victim alleged that three armed men deliberately ambushed them, opening fire from behind after briefly questioning their identities.

Meanwhile, police claimed that the incident appeared to be a case of accidentalfiring.

They have launched a detailed probe into the circumstances.

The victims, Amit Mondal and Shubhadip Ghosh, both 25-year-old residents of Birbhum district and employees of a sand quarry under the Lalgarh police station area, remain under treatment at Jhargram Medical College and Hospital.
