New Delhi, March 24 -- A wanted robber allegedly opened fire on a Delhi Police team before being overpowered in an encounter in central Delhi, with a bullet striking an inspector's bulletproof jacket, an officer said today.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Ajay alias Kaliya (34), a resident of Gautampuri in Usmanpur.
He was apprehended by the team of the Central district in the early hours of Tuesday near the Rose Garden service road on MG Road in the IP Estate area.
Ajay was wanted in a high-value robbery case of about Rs 85 lakh, which was registered at Shastri Park police station and was suspected to be planning another crime.
