Hapur, Nov. 10 -- A wanted criminal with a bounty of Rs 50,000 was shot dead in a late-night encounter with Kapurpur police, delivering a major blow to illegal cow slaughter networks in the region.

The accused, identified as Hasin, a history-sheeter from Sambhal district, was a known cattle smuggler. Acting on a tip-off, police confronted him when he reportedly opened fire on officers in an attempt to escape. The police retaliated, injuring Hasin, who later succumbed to his wounds during treatment, officials confirmed on Monday.
