Mumbai, July 13 -- Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Monday accused the Fadnavis government in Maharashtra of betraying women and the farming community by diluting key welfare schemes through restrictive eligibility norms.
Wadettiwar said that the government's flagship 'Ladki Bahin' scheme, which was aggressively promoted during the election campaign, has now been weakened by the introduction of stringent eligibility criteria.
He alleged that, after the elections, the administration imposed "draconian conditions," resulting in the exclusion of approximately 92 lakh women from the scheme. He warned that the ruling coalition would face the political consequences of this decision in future elections.
