Shillong, Aug. 21 -- Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator Adelbert Nongrum has urged the Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Thomas Sangma to reconsider his decision not to admit a resolution opposing the mandatory singing of more than two stanzas of Vande Mataram.
Nongrum sought the reconsideration of the resolution submitted under Rule 115 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business for the forthcoming Autumn Session of the Assembly.
In a letter, Deputy Secretary Raja Kharpuri informed Nongrum that the Speaker had rejected his resolution on the grounds that it violated Rule 117(g) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, and that Parliament has passed the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Act, ...
