Chennai, Feb. 22 -- Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Sunday laid the foundation stone for installing a 140-ft statue of freedom fighter V O Chidambaram Pillai in Madurai.
In a post on X, the VP office wrote "Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan today participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony for the 140-foot statue of V. O. Chidambaram Pillai in Madurai, Tamil Nadu."The Vice President highlighted V.O.C.'s historic role in launching the Swadeshi shipping service in defiance of the British monopoly.
He said the 140-foot statue would stand as a lasting monument to V.O.C.'s sacrifice and would instill patriotism and dedication among the youth.
