Nuuk, Sept. 6 -- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to arrive in Greenland on Sunday for a two-day visit alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, seeking to reaffirm the European Union's support for the autonomous Danish territory amid continued US interest in the strategically important Arctic island.
President von der Leyen in Greenland will meet with Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and sign a renewed joint declaration aimed at strengthening relations between the EU and Greenland, the official statement said.
The leaders are also expected to discuss Arctic security, investment, critical raw materials and economic cooperation.
