Kolkata, Oct. 27 -- In keeping her commitment to the people of landslide-ravaged Darjeeling about restoring vital connectivity with the plains, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today announced operationalisation of a temporary "Hume Pipe" bridge at Dudhia, linking landlocked Mirik with Siliguri.
The bridge, constructed by the engineers and workers of the state PWD, has been completed in record 16 days.
"I am happy to inform you that the construction of the alternative Hume Pipe Bridge (Vented Causeway) at Dudhia, connecting Mirik with Siliguri, has been successfully completed. Normal traffic will resume over it from Monday," the Chief Minister said.
