Kochi, Nov. 7 -- The Kerala Cyber Police have successfully recovered Rs 1.06 crore out of the Rs 1.30 crore fraudulently siphoned off from a senior citizen and doctor from Ernakulam through a sophisticated 'virtual arrest' online scam.

The incident unfolded when a group of fraudsters contacted the doctor, falsely claiming that his mobile number had been misused for criminal activities and that a case had been filed against him by the CBI, sources said.

Under this pretext, the scammers forced him to join a video call, where they deceived him into believing that he had been placed under 'virtual arrest.'The doctor was kept under constant watch through the video call for nearly 48 hours, during which he was mentally pressured and manipulated...
