Chennai, June 28 -- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay launched a statewide polio vaccination drive on Sunday as part of the National Pulse Polio Immunization Programme, covering 52.91 lakh kids, to maintain its more than two-decade long status of a polio-free state.

Vijay launched the campaign at the Adi Dravidar Welfare Higher Secondary School campus in Palavakkam, Chennai, where children below the age of five were administered the oral polio vaccine.

The Health and Family Welfare Department has made extensive arrangements to ensure that all eligible children are administered the vaccine.
