Nagpur, May 22 -- Severe heatwave conditions continued to grip Maharashtra's Vidarbha region on Friday, with Brahmapuri recording the highest temperature at a scorching 47.2 degrees Celsius, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange alerts for several districts till May 25.

Wardha followed closely at 47 degrees Celsius, while Amravati recorded 46.6 degrees Celsius, Gadchiroli 46 degrees Celsius, Nagpur 45.7 degrees Celsius and Yavatmal 45.4 degrees Celsius, according to weather officials.

The IMD has issued a red alert for severe heatwave conditions in Akola, Amravati and Wardha on May 23 and in Akola, Wardha, Amravati and Yavatmal on May 24.
