Pune, June 2 -- The Temple Inam Land Rights Abolition Law proposed by the Maharashtra government has drawn strong opposition from various temple trusts and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), who alleged that the proposed legislation would undermine the religious autonomy of temples and cause injustice to thousands of ancient shrines across the state.
According to VHP representatives, inam lands were historically granted to temples to support religious activities such as worship, community welfare, food distribution, maintenance of dharamshalas, and other social and spiritual services.
These lands, they said, form an important foundation of the faith and traditions of the Hindu community.
