Mumbai, June 1 -- The last rites of veteran playback singer and Padma Bhushan awardee Suman Kalyanpur was performed at Santacruz crematorium here with full state honours on Monday.

A larger number of dignitaries, government officials, and the cultural fraternity gathered to pay their floral tributes.

The iconic singer passed away at the age of 89 late Sunday evening at her residence in Mumbai, bringing an end to a remarkable musical journey that spanned several decades. Her voice bore such a striking similarity to that of melody queen Lata Mangeshkar that common listeners sometimes mistook one for the other.
