Kolkata, Feb. 23 -- Senior politician Mukul Roy passed away late on Sunday night in Kolkata. He was 71.
Roy had been undergoing treatment for multiple ailments, including kidney-related complications, at a private hospital in the city for a prolonged period.
He suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed his last during treatment.
His death has cast a pall of gloom across the political spectrum.
Soon after the news broke, leaders, workers and supporters of the Trinamool Congress began gathering outside his residence.
The mortal remains will be taken to the West Bengal Assembly around noon, where the Speaker and legislators are expected to pay their last respects. The body will later be taken to his residence in Kanchrapara.
