Dubai, Aug. 18 -- A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, damaging its engine room and causing a crew casualty, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre said.

"The Company Security Officer has reported that the vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while conducting an outbound transit of the Strait of Hormuz," UKMTO said in a statement.

The impact damaged the engine room and resulted in a crew casualty, it said. The remaining crew members were being assisted by the Omani Coast Guard.

No environmental impact was reported, while authorities were investigating the incident, UKMTO said.
