Chennai, April 5 -- In a sudden development, days after annnouncing his own candidature, dalit outfit Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Founder-President and Chidambaram Lok Sabha member Thol Thirumavalavan reversed his decision and has opted out of contest from the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Talking to reporters here last evening, Thirumavalavan, whose party was a key ally of the multi-party DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) announced his withdrawal from the poll fray with a view to preserving the unity of the DMK-led alliance and not to fall prey to unfounded rumours that has been spread after he decided to enter the poll fray from the stronghold of Kattumannarkoil Assembly segment in Cuddalore district.
