Malappuram (Kerala), Aug. 9 -- The controversy over the singing of Vande Mataram in full at official functions has resurfaced in Kerala, with senior Indian union Muslim League (IUML) leader and Minister for Industries PK Kunhalikutty saying that there is no need to sing the national song in its entirety.
Reacting to the Kerala Chief Secretary's circular directing departments to ensure the full rendition of Vande Mataram during Independence Day celebrations, Kunhalikutty said his party had never followed such a practice.
"Vande Mataram need not be sung in full. We have never sung it in full so far. At Congress and UPA programmes, only the first part was sung. That is our policy," Kunhalikutty said.
