Washington, June 3 -- The United States has formally proposed action against 60 of its trading partners, which together account for a significant share of the global economy, for allegedly enabling trade in goods produced through forced labour. It has also threatened to impose new tariffs on all of them unless they take corrective action.

In findings released on June 2, 2026, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced that it had concluded investigations under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, finding that each of the 60 economies had failed to ban or adequately enforce a ban on the importation of forced labour goods, a practice Washington said was costing American workers dearly.
