Tehran, July 16 -- Iranian authorities said that a missile strike hit areas near a cancer hospital in Ahvaz, southwestern Iran, following the announcement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) of a second wave of strikes targeting Iranian military capabilities linked to alleged threats against maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The renewed explosions were carried out in at least five Iranian cities on Wednesday night as the US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) announced more strikes across Iran.

Iranian media reported several explosions in the cities of Ahvaz and Chabahar in the country's south.

The Mehr News Agency said US strikes hit near a children's cancer hospital in Ahvaz, triggering its evacuation.
