Washington, June 26 -- The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on a major Rwandan gold refinery and two senior executives, accusing them of involvement in a "network" that smuggles conflict minerals from eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and supports armed groups, including Rwandan-backed March 23 Movement (M23).
This action supports the historic U.S.-brokered Washington Accords for Peace and Prosperity, signed on December 4, 2025, by the leaders of the DRC and Rwanda.
