Washington, May 18 -- The US military is facing rapid decline in its weapons stockpiles as its war with Iran goes on, exposing a growing vulnerability in the country's ability to sustain future conflicts, with requirement far outstripping production speed.
Retired Major General John Ferrari, who previously oversaw programme analysis and evaluation work at the Pentagon, warned that the situation had become deeply concerning.
"[It's] very worrisome," Ferrari told CBC News.
"We're running out of certain types of weapons for the type of war we like to fight. We're running out of the expensive, exquisite ones," he said, adding that depleted stockpiles now represent a "strategic red flag".
