Washington, March 19 -- Further intensifying its airstrikes into Iran, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the country was set to deliver on Thursday, what he described as the "largest strike package yet" amid deepening operations against the Islamic Republic.

At a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth said more than 7,000 targets had already been hit across Iran, which included many parts of the country's military infrastructure, as Washington aims to downsize Tehran's substantial weapons arsenal.

US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen Dan Caine added that Washington's forces are now flying further east and deeper into Iranian airspace, targeting critical naval assets, mine depots, and ammunition facilities.
