Washington/ Caracas, June 26 -- US Army Major General Kevin Jarrard arrived on Friday in Caracas to coordinate the work of US specialists involved in earthquake relief efforts, the US Embassy in Venezuela said.
"US teams are deploying to support the response to the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. This evening in Caracas, we welcomed Major General Jarrard, who will coordinate these efforts together with our team on the ground," the embassy wrote on X.
Two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude struck Venezuela on Wednesday. They were followed by 30 aftershocks. Many homes were destroyed, infrastructure and hospitals were damaged, and the country's main airport was closed.
