Riyadh/Tehran, March 3 -- The US Embassy in Riyadh said it had suspended services at its missions in Saudi Arabia after it was attacked by drones, as tensions across the Middle East escalated further. Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world's oil passes, has been closed, and Iran has warned that vessels attempting to transit the waterway would be targeted.

In a statement posted on X, the embassy said all routine and emergency consular appointments were cancelled on Tuesday and that "shelter in place" measures were in effect at its missions in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran.
