Washington, March 27 -- The US Department of Defence and the White House are reportedly weighing plans to deploy a contingent of an additional 10,000 combat troops to West Asia, significantly expanding the US military footprint in the region, even as President Donald Trump has claimed that negotiations with Iran are ongoing.

A senior defence official said a decision could come as early as next week, with forces likely drawn from units not yet committed to the region. The proposed reinforcement comes amid the ongoing diplomatic efforts led by Trump to end the war, even as Washington is doubling in on its military preparedness.
