Washington, July 6 -- US military bases on the island of Guam have been placed on high alert ahead of the imminent arrival of Super Typhoon Bavi, a Category 5 storm, the Joint Information Center (JIC) said on Monday.
The JIC said Guam remains under Condition of Readiness (COR) 1, with all military installations also at Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) 1. Residents and personnel have been advised to remain indoors and avoid road travel until COR 4 is declared.
Authorities in the US territory are expected to begin damage assessments on Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. UTC (Monday 8:00 p.m. GMT), focusing on roads, infrastructure, utilities, and debris clearance.
