Washington/Tokyo, May 30 -- The United States and a group of allied countries called for stronger United Nations action against alleged North Korean sanctions evasion at sea, urging the UN Security Council to move against vessels accused of facilitating prohibited exports.
In a joint statement, the governments of the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the United Kingdom, along with the European External Action Service (EEAS), said there was "clear evidence" of violations involving maritime shipments of North Korean coal and iron ore, which are banned under UN sanctions.
