Hyderabad, Feb. 26 -- Uruguay women's national hockey team arrived here on Wednesday for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers, aiming to secure a historic maiden berth in the prestigious tournament.
The eight-nation qualifiers, scheduled from March 8 to 14, will determine three spots for the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup to be jointly hosted by Belgium and Netherlands.
Uruguay, popularly known as the "Cimarronas", entered the competition with growing confidence following an impressive run of form that included a runners-up finish at the FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2 and their first-ever medal at the 2025 Pan American Cup.
Led by captain Belen Barreiro, the team is focused on taking it one match at a time.
