Lucknow, May 23 -- Severe heatwave conditions continued unabated across Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, with nearly two-thirds of the state reeling under scorching sunshine, hot easterly winds and oppressive humidity, severely disrupting normal life.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'Red Alert' for extreme heatwave conditions in Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi and Prayagraj, while 18 other districts remained under an 'Orange Alert'. Warnings for hot and uncomfortable nights were also issued for 41 districts.

Banda recorded the highest temperature in the state at 46.4 degrees Celsius on Friday, followed by Prayagraj at 46.2 degrees C. Temperatures also remained above 45 deg C in Jhansi, Orai and Agra. Even night-time conditions o...
