Lucknow, Sept. 3 -- More than 18 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across Uttar Pradesh in the past 24 hours, most of them due to house and wall collapses, as incessant rainfall continues to batter the state.
Rising water levels in several rivers have led to waterlogging in around 32 districts, with 22 of them severely affected, according to the Relief Commissioner's office.
The swollen Mandakani River in Chitrakoot, which has been affecting several districts in Madhya Pradesh and hilly areas amid continuous rainfall, rose by another 2.5 metres on Thursday after its water level had fallen below the danger mark. The rise has affected around 36 villages.
