Lucknow, Aug. 23 -- In a move aimed at improving the welfare of women employees and midday meal cooks, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved changes to maternity leave rules and increased the honorarium for cooks.

The decisions were taken at a state Cabinet meeting held through circulation on Saturday evening.

Officials said the state government has removed the requirement of a two-year age gap between two children for availing maternity leave for the second child.

Under the existing system, a minimum age difference of two years between the two children was required for eligibility for maternity leave for the second child. This resulted in several female employees being denied maternity leave.
