Lucknow, March 3 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has taken suo motu cognizance of two separate incidents reported from Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh and issued a notice to the state government seeking detailed reports.
In the first case, the Commission acted on a media report highlighting a botched cataract surgery camp conducted at a private hospital in Gorakhpur on February 1, 2026.
According to reports published on February 20, at least nine patients had their infected eyes surgically removed following severe post-operative complications, while nine others reportedly lost vision in one eye.
