Lucknow, July 14 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken a stern stance regarding the ongoing concretisation and construction activities along both banks of the Gomti River.
Citing Ganga conservation norms, the Tribunal has banned any construction-in violation of regulations-along the riverbanks, the riverbed, and the active floodplain. This move is expected to impact projects worth approximately Rs 2,500 crore.
A bench comprising NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Expert Member Dr. Afroz Ahmad issued this interim order on July 9 while hearing a petition filed by environmental activist and advocate Alok Singh.
