Varanasi, May 18 -- The once-bustling ghats of the religious city of Kashi have been deserted since morning on Monday.
The scorching sun and heatwave have troubled both the residents of Kashi and the visiting tourists. Westerly winds blowing at speeds of 12 to 15 kilometers per hour have increased the humidity.
Since Monday morning, temperatures have been seen crossing 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature in the early morning was around 27 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists predict that the mercury will surpass 43 degrees Celsius by noon.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for a heatwave between May 19 and 21. A further significant increase in temperatures is predicted over the next two to three days.
