Lucknow, Sept. 22 -- The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) has demanded a high-level and impartial inquiry into the custodial death of a 22-year-old Dalit man at Patti police station in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district.
The deceased, identified as Arjun Gautam, a resident of Molnapur, was allegedly brought to the police station for questioning in connection with a case involving his alleged elopement with a girl.
His family has alleged that he was subjected to physical assault and torture while in custody. Police later said that his body was found hanging inside a police station toilet on September 21.
