Solapur, Feb. 25 -- Unseasonal rain accompanied by strong winds has caused extensive damage to agricultural crops in South Solapur taluka of Solapur district.
Farmers in the Mandrup area have suffered heavy losses as their ready-to-harvest tomato crops have been completely flattened. Standing crops such as wheat, jowar, and gram have also been severely affected.
Farmers said they had invested between rupees 30,000 and 40,000 in cultivating tomato crops, expecting returns of 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh.
However, the sudden spell of unseasonal rain has destroyed the crops entirely, dashing their hopes of recovery and profit.
