Shimla, Feb. 28 -- The union Power Ministry has set a target to replace all 28 lakh conventional electricity metres in Himachal Pradesh with smart prepaid metres under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy informed that nearly 55 million smart prepaid metres have already been installed across the country under the RDSS. The scheme, launched in 2023 with an outlay of Rs 3,03,758 crore for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26, aims to modernize the power distribution sector and strengthen the financial position of distribution companies (DISCOMs).
